Judging Nominations
The judge dashboard provides a special interface for evaluating award nominations based on the award administrators' criteria. This guide explains how to navigate the judging process, review nominations, and provide feedback that helps determine the most deserving candidates.
Accessing Your Judge Dashboard
When you log in as a judge or shortlister, you'll be directed to your judge dashboard, which displays all the programmes you have access to. For each programme, you'll see the number of nominations assigned to you and your permission level. To begin reviewing nominations, click the Go to your Inbox
button for the desired programme.
If you don't see any programmes or nominations, you may need additional permissions. In this case, you'll see instructions to contact the programme administrator for access.
Reviewing Nominations
The nomination review interface is designed to help you efficiently evaluate each submission. The main screen displays the nominee's information, including their personal details, professional background, and responses to the programme's questions. You can also view any supporting documents, such as headshots and CVs, that were submitted with the nomination.
The sidebar on the left shows a list of all nominations assigned to you, allowing you to navigate between them easily. Each nomination in the sidebar displays the nominee's name and may include indicators for unread nominations, those you haven't scored yet, or nominations without a scorecard.
Filtering Nominations
To help manage your workload, you can filter nominations using the buttons at the top of the sidebar:
- Unseen nominations: Highlights submissions you haven't viewed yet
- Unscored nominations: Shows nominations you haven't scored against the criteria
- Nominations without recommendations: Displays nominations without a completed scorecard
These filters help you prioritise your work and ensure that all nominations receive proper evaluation.
Adding Notes
As you review nominations, you can add notes to capture your thoughts and observations. These notes are visible to other judges and programme administrators, creating a collaborative evaluation process. To add a note, click the Notes
button in the actions bar and enter your comments.
The notes feature is particularly useful for highlighting specific strengths or concerns about a nomination that you want to remember or share with other evaluators. The number of existing notes is displayed on the button, allowing you to see at a glance if others have already commented.
Scoring Nominations
Depending on the programme configuration, you may be asked to score nominations on various criteria. The scoring system helps standardise the evaluation process and ensures that all nominations are judged consistently. To add a score, use the scoring controls in the actions bar.
Scores are typically numerical values that represent your assessment of specific aspects of the nomination. These scores may be used to calculate overall rankings or to identify top candidates for further consideration.
Submitting Scorecards
The scorecard is your formal recommendation for a nomination. To submit a scorecard, click the Submit Scorecard
button in the actions bar. You'll be prompted to select one of the following recommendations:
- No: The candidate does not meet the criteria for the award
- Maybe: The candidate shows potential but may not be among the top contenders
- Yes: The candidate meets the criteria and should be considered
- Strong Yes: The candidate exceeds the criteria and is a top contender
Along with your recommendation, you can add detailed comments explaining your decision. These comments are particularly important for borderline cases or when you want to highlight specific strengths or weaknesses.
Reviewing Testimonials
Some nominations include testimonials from third parties that provide additional context and support for the nominee. If testimonials are available, you'll see a Testimonials
button in the actions bar with a count of how many are attached.
Testimonials can offer valuable insights into the nominee's character, achievements, and impact from different perspectives. When reviewing testimonials, consider how they complement and reinforce the information provided in the main nomination.
Collaboration with Other Judges
The judging process is often collaborative, with multiple judges reviewing the same nominations. The notes feature facilitates this collaboration by allowing judges to share their thoughts and build on each other's observations. This collective approach helps ensure a thorough and fair evaluation of all candidates.
